Tic Toc

A clock
the wind up kind
that woke me
with a shrill of bells
tic toc
since I was 7
gifted to me by my Nanny
that was pure heaven

A clock
that Mother gave away
when I left home to college
a sadness I kept at bay

A clock
that I spot
as I walk
into a vintage boutique
5000 miles away
in Paris
my childhood clock
that has returned

with me.

Oh, this is very touching. I understand the value of this clock for you by the words you have written. I know there are some things like this that I valued from my childhood as well that really are not 'valuable' in a monetary sense, but mean much to me. A stuffed animal, some toy soldiers. One thing I think about and don't know where it went (as I can't imagine I would have given it away or thrown it away) was a Mickey Mouse watch from when I was 8 or 9. I know if I still had it it would be valuable today...but for me it would have its sentimental value. I know if I would find such watch today in any kind of boutique it would be WAY out of my price range, a remnant of an earlier (and simpler) time. Your poem triggered my own thoughts. Nice writing!

Funny, how these reminders of our
past surface and we feel those emotions stir within our hearts..
